Can you tell me more about the person-centred approach?
The person-centred approach was developed by Carl Rogers, and it is one of the most widely-used Humanistic Therapies in the field of counselling.
At the heart of this approach is the ability to be genuine, deeply understanding and accepting (or non-judgemental) in relationships, and the approach therefore relies heavily on your personality, as opposed to 'techniques' or 'strategies'.
This approach may seem relatively simple to describe, yet it can be a hard discipline in reality. It calls for a consistency in the relationship qualities, genuinely subscribing to the beliefs that underpin them, and an ongoing commitment to developing self-awareness.
This is an approach we feel really passionate about, yet we also feel it is relevant in an ever-changing world, and that can be applied to all kinds of relationships, such as that between parent-child, teacher-student, nurse-patient, and so on.
Why should I consider training with Acorn Wells?
Meeting with the lead trainer/tutor: We offer all prospective learners and students the opportunity to meet with the lead trainer/tutor prior to enrolling on or applying for a course. This meeting will enable you to get a sense of who we are, ask any questions you may have, and take a look around our training centre.
Course design: Our counselling skills training programme is firmly grounded in passion, creativity, flexibility, and solid experience of the person-centred approach. The person-centred 'core conditions' are given equal attention, which is rare at Certificate level.
Learning: Our courses include activities that have been uniquely designed to reflect the qualities and skills of the person-centred helper, which can enable you to really assimilate your learning, and develop a sound understanding of the approach.
Course delivery: We are the only Eastleigh-based independent provider of counselling skills courses, and our training centre is easily accessible from Southampton, Winchester and Portsmouth. We are able to offer a rich learning experience that is equal to other good counselling skills courses, yet also unique in terms of its delivery.
Are your courses right for me?
Our courses may be right for you, if you are at a point in your life where you can meet the demands of the courses, and they are a 'good fit' for you.
You are very welcome to contact the lead tutor for an informal discussion, as well as request our course literature.
Are your courses recognised by a professional body?
Our courses are new, yet we will apply for course recognition in the near future. We will let you know when the application process is underway, including on this website and in our course literature.
We do have an External Examiner, and he will monitor the content, delivery and assessment processes of our courses - to ensure they meet the national standards for counselling skills training.
Will your courses qualify me to practice as a Counsellor?
We specialise in counselling skills, so all of our courses are at Certificate level. In order to qualify as a Counsellor, you will need to undertake and successfully complete further studies at Diploma level.
The Acorn Wells Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling Skills & Studies does provide sound preparation for further studies in counselling, and it can be used as an entry qualification for a Diploma in Counselling.
Can I pay the course fees by instalments?
Yes, our courses can be paid by instalments, and our payment methods include cheque, bank transfer and standing order.
Are there any additional costs associated with the courses?
