The Person-Centred Approach
The Person-Centred Approach was founded by Dr Carl Rogers, and it is one of the most widely used Humanistic Therapies within the field of counselling. It is based in a philosophy about people and human relationships, and we believe it is fundamental to any kind of relationship.
Rogers put forward the view that the relationship attitudes of genuineness, understanding and acceptance provide the best environment for a person to grow and change, and the approach therefore relies heavily on the helper's/therapist's personality.
We feel that communicating such attitudes involves understanding and subscribing to the philosophy that underpins them, an ongoing commitment to self-awareness, and the development of self-acceptance, and these are fundamental aspects of our courses.
