Welcome, and thank you so much for coming to our website. Acorn Wells Counselling Courses was founded in January 2017, and we're an independent counselling training organisation within Hampshire.
We facilitate learning of the Person Centred Approach, and we offer a Certificate level counselling course in Eastleigh, and a Person Centred Counselling Diploma. Our courses are open to anyone that meets the entry requirements.
We seek to deliver our courses with real energy and passion, and using fresh and fun activities. Our courses may be suited to you if you have a keen interest in helping others, and wish to develop your listening and communication skills.
In line with the Person Centred Approach, we place an emphasis on personal development, and developing a sound relationship with 'the client' - one which supports, appropriately challenges, and empowers the client.
Our training centre is situated in Eastleigh in Hampshire, which lies between Winchester and Southampton. It caters for a range of physical health needs, and facilities include full disabled access, a lift, and wheelchair-accessible training rooms.
The Person Centred Approach
The Person Centred Approach was developed by Dr Carl Rogers, and it is a well-established and radical approach to counselling and psychotherapy. It is based in a philosophy about people and human relationships, and we believe it is fundamental to any kind of helping relationship.
The approach calls for an ability to relate to 'the client' at a deep level, and through being genuine (congruence), deeply understanding (empathy) and accepting (unconditional positive regard). This way of relating can be a hard discipline in reality, yet it can enable the client to heal, grow and change.
This approach relies heavily on the therapist's/helper's personality, such as communicating the qualities of genuineness, understanding and acceptance, and subscribing to the beliefs that underpin the approach. Training in the approach therefore places a strong emphasis on personal development.
Certificate level counselling course
Our Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Person Centred Counselling Skills & Theory offers 210 hours of classroom-based learning, and is open to you if you are 20 years of age or over, have a keen interest in helping others, and an openness to personal development and change.
The course begins at Level 2 (30 hours), and progresses into Level 3 (180 hours), and it will enable you to use counselling skills in one-to-one helping relationships, such as in teaching, management, health or social work, caring or support work.
If you successfully complete our Certificate course, and decide to progress onto a Person Centred Diploma course, you will already have a solid understanding of the approach.
We run this counselling course in Eastleigh, which is within easy reach of Southampton and Winchester. Our training centre is a five minute walk from Eastleigh train station, and has good motorway links (M3 and M27).
Counsellor training course
Our Level 4 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling Practice offers 420 hours of classroom-based learning, and it is open to you if you have successfully completed our Level 2 and 3 Certificate course, or equivalent.
This course may appeal to you if you wish to embark on Counsellor training near Southampton, or enhance an existing role and develop your career opportunities.
For this course you will need to take part in the course activities, complete the course assignments, gain client experience through a counselling placement, and engage in your own personal therapy.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be entitled to practice as a Person Centred Counsellor, and work towards accreditation with the National Counselling Society (NCS) or British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
