The Person Centred Approach
The Person Centred Approach was developed by Dr Carl Rogers, and it is one of the most widely used Humanistic therapies. It is based in a philosophy about people and human relationships, and we believe it is fundamental to any kind of helping relationship.
Rogers felt that a relationship firmly based in genuineness (congruence), understanding (empathy) and acceptance (unconditional positive regard) can enable a person to heal, grow and change, and the approach therefore relies heavily on the therapist's/helper's personality.
Training in the Person Centred Approach places a strong emphasis on personal development, including increasing awareness of who you are, how you feel, and how you relate to others, and developing self-acceptance.
