Counselling training organisation based within Hampshire
Welcome, and thank you so much for coming to our website. We are Acorn Wells - established in January 2017, and we are an independent counselling training organisation based within Hampshire.
Our courses may be suited to you, if you have a keen interest in helping others, and wish to develop your listening and communication skills. Our courses are open to anyone that meets the entry requirements.
We offer a Level 2 and 3 counselling course in Eastleigh, and a Level 4 Person Centred counselling Diploma. Our training centre has very good motorway links (M3 and M27), and it is accessible by train from Southampton and Winchester in Hampshire.
We facilitate learning of the Person Centred Approach, and we seek to deliver our courses with real energy and passion, and using fresh and fun activities. We support our students in getting the most out of the courses, and being the best they can be.
In line with our approach, we place an emphasis on personal development, and developing a sound relationship with 'the client' - one which supports, appropriately challenges, and empowers the client, and we believe this is at the heart of the Person Centred Approach.
The Person Centred Approach
The Person Centred Approach was developed by Dr Carl Rogers, and it is a well-established and radical approach to counselling and psychotherapy. It is based in a philosophy about people and human relationships, and we believe it is fundamental to any kind of helping relationship.
The approach calls for an ability to relate to 'the client' at a deep level, and through being genuine in the relationship (congruence), listening in a deeply understanding way (empathy), and valuing and accepting them as another human being (unconditional positive regard). This way of relating can be a hard discipline in reality, yet it can enable the client to heal, grow and change.
This approach relies heavily on the therapist's/helper's personality, such as communicating the qualities of genuineness, understanding and acceptance, and subscribing to the beliefs that underpin the approach. Training in the approach therefore places a strong emphasis on personal development.
Certificate level counselling course
Our Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Person Centred Counselling Skills & Theory offers 210 hours of classroom-based learning, and is open to you if you are 20 years of age or over, have a keen interest in helping others, and have an openness to personal development and change.
This course provides learning opportunities in three areas: counselling skills, counselling theory and personal development, and you will be required to take part in discussions and activities, practise counselling skills, give and receive feedback, and reflect on your own learning.
This course begins at Level 2 (30 hours), and progresses into Level 3 (180 hours), and it will enable you to use counselling skills in one-to-one helping relationships, such as in teaching, management, health or social work, caring or support work.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive the Acorn Wells Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Person Centred Counselling Skills & Theory, and be eligible to apply for our Level 4 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling Practice.
How our course compares to other Certificate courses
Our Certificate course combines two courses into one. The Level 2 aspect of the course is the equivalent of a full introduction to counselling (30 hours), and the Level 3 aspect of the course is the equivalent of a full Certificate in counselling skills (180 hours).
Many Certificate courses do not focus on the Person Centred Approach to the extent that we do, and so the personal development aspect of the course is likely to be much higher. Our personal development activities also reflect the role of a 'Person Centred helper'.
If you complete our Certificate course, and decide to progress onto a Person Centred counselling Diploma, you will already have a solid understanding of what is involved.
